Atmos Consulting is a leading independent environmental consultancy, specialising in the complex task of finding the best site for renewable energy projects such as wind farms, hydro-electricity and bio mass. Clients are primarily utility companies, developers and the public sector.
Atmos Consulting help clients identify sites that will maximise the energy generated and optimise profitability whilst minimising environmental impact. The ability to consolidate, analyse and present vast quantities of geospatial data underpins everything Atmos does but as the company expanded, the existing desktop solution was no longer appropriate and they required a solution accessible to all staff.
Atmos migrated its diverse geospatial assets onto ArcGIS Server and a two tiered approach was then implemented. GIS Specialists have access to advanced tools for in-depth analysis, editing and data presentation whilst general users view maps through an ArcGIS Intranet Mapping Solution. GIS Specialist no longer have to respond to simple tasks, freeing up their time to focus on more complex analysis.
Atmos can now perform a deeper level of analysis of the environmental, commercial, physical and social constraints of potential sites, enabling it to deliver a high quality service to their clients. Environmental Impact Assessments now include maps generated by ArcGIS, visualising information. Consequently, around 90% of Atmos' planning submission are approved.
