We’re confident we can identify the level of risk more accurately than our competition and this ultimately means a more profitable business.

Direct Line Group (DLG) is the UK's largest home and motor insurer, consisting of several well known brands including Direct Line, Churchill and Privilege. The brand also includes NIG, one of the country's leading providers of business insurance.
DLG's primary objective was to improve its assessment of risk when writing business within its commercial property division NIG. Previous risk assessment relied upon postcode whilst the data needed for writing business had to be gathered from multiple systems. RBSI's goal was to improve the risk of its commercial portfolio and run a more profitable business.
Esri UK developed a Geospatial system with a geocoding process to convert postal addresses into co-ordinates and a front end interface for underwriters called Risk Explorer. Underwriters now have all the information they need in one place - a map that visualises all contextual information relating to a property including flood data.
The ability to accurately match price to risk, enables underwriters to be smarter about what business risk DLG take on-board and customers receive a fair price. By using a Geospatial system, DLG's understanding of risk has taken a step forward and is helping to run a more profitable business.
