The Customer

With a 300-year heritage, Royal Sun Alliance, RSA is one of the world’s leading multinational insurance groups. Today, they employ around 23,000 people, serving 17 million customers in 140 countries.

The Challenge

The ability to grow the business whilst managing risk exposure was a primary objective for RSA and it sought an accurate information system for managing exposure to risk. In addition, RSA wanted to improve operational processes around claim handling and undertake detailed risk modelling should a major event occur.

Solution

When a customer calls, the Esri Insurance platform is used to geocode the address, establishing nearby risk surrounding a building. Further data layers such as crime, flood and subsistence information can be layered onto a map, building up a complete visual picture and detailed risk assessment.

Benefits

RSA has improved operational efficiencies, speeding up the turnaround time of risk assessments from several days to being available instantly. Identifying areas in which RSA could write more business without affecting the accumulated risk is enabling RSA to take a strategic approach to business growth.
