Workshop 1:
What's new in ArcGIS 9.3?

Timings:

2 sessions; 09.00 – 12.30 and 13.30 – 17.00

Description:

ArcGIS 9.3 delivers new functionality and improved performance and usability across the entire ArcGIS platform from Desktop to Server and Mobile. This half day hands-on workshop will introduce the new functionality that is available across the ESRI technology platform, focusing on Desktop and Server.

Pre-requisites:

Attendees of this workshop should be familiar with the ArcGIS Desktop.


Workshop 2:
Developing web applications with ArcGIS Server

Timings:

2 sessions; 09.00 – 12.30 and 13.30 – 17.00

Description:

This half day hands-on workshop will look at the different development options for ArcGIS Server focusing on using ArcGIS Server Manager, the ArcGIS Server Web ADF and the new ArcGIS Server REST API including the ArcGIS Javascript Extension for the Google Maps API and the ArcGIS Javascript Extension for Microsoft Virtual Earth.At the end of this session attendees will understand the capabilities of each approach and the various criteria that should be met before deciding upon which development route to take.

Pre-requisites:

Knowledge of general web development would be an advantage.


Workshop 3 (AM):
Optimising map services for performance and presentation through ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Explorer

Timings:

09.00 – 12.30

Description:

This session will look at the steps you should take to ensure that your ArcGIS Server map services perform through ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Explorer. It will look at how to optimise your ArcMap map document and how you should approach the caching of data in order to obtain the best performance possible. Attendees of this workshop will leave with practical knowledge that can be transferred to the organisations they work in.

Workshop 3 (PM):
Optimising geoprocessing services for use through ArcGIS Server and ArcGIS Explorer

Timings:

13.30 – 17.00

Description:

This session will look specifically at best practise for creating geoprocessing models in the ArcGIS Desktop and publishing these through ArcGIS Server for use in web mapping applications, ArcGIS Explorer or even back into the Desktop environment. It will cover accessing tools from the toolbox, linking these together to form models, the various parameters that need to be considered when building models for hosting in the server environment and how they are exposed to the user of a variety of client applications. Attendees of this workshop will leave with practical knowledge that can be utilised within the organisations they work in.

Workshop 4 (AM):
Getting the most out of ArcGIS Desktop

Timings:

09.00 – 12.30

Description:

This hands-on workshop will introduce the ArcGIS Desktop to new users of ESRI technology. It will focus on core functionality such as editing, symbolisation, analysis of data and options for presenting results.

Workshop 4 (PM):
Getting the most out of ArcGIS Desktop Extensions (incl. Crime Analyst and LocatorHub)

Timings:

13.30 – 17.00

Description:

Building on the morning workshop introducing the Desktop this hands-on workshop will introduce the extensions that extend the functionality of the core desktop environment. Core extensions such as 3D Analyst and Spatial Analyst will be covered as well as extensions from ESRI (UK) such as Crime Analyst and LocatorHub.

Getting the most out of ArcGIS Desktop workshop or a working knowledge of ArcGIS Desktop


Workshop 5 (AM):
Creating a business case for GIS: Gaining the CEO’s buy-in!

Timings:

09:00- 10:30

Description:

Developing a framework for evaluating and presenting Geographic Information projects can be difficult. The session explores the questions to be answered and processes to be undertaken in order to present a GI business case, but most importantly, to ensure that key messages are articulated and effectively communicated in language that senior managers want to hear.

Workshop 5 (AM):
Implementing the project - Making it happen!

Timings:

11:00-12:30

Description:

Having produced a solid business case for GIS, this session considers the practicalities of driving the project forward, through to successful delivery. We will identify some of the challenges to be overcome during the implementation process and look at ways in which many organisations have successfully incorporated GIS into their day-day operations.
