Carbon reduction is a national priority and renewable energy, low carbon heat and energy efficiency all have a critical role to play in addressing the challenges of climate change. By 2050, our landscape is set to look remarkably different to how it does now. For all those actively involved in the planning, promotion and delivery of a low carbon economy, careful consideration will need to be given to the existing built and natural environment.
Low carbon development will be highly dependent upon a robust base of evidence. With financial incentives now strongly established, stakeholders need easy access to meaningful data from which they can improve awareness and deliver action. Based upon a strong heritage in environmental science, Esri UK is helping the public and private sector to establish the datasets and tools to grow low carbon economies.
Progress in the low carbon economy will be highly dependent upon building detailed understandings of the built and natural environment. In doing this, organisations are able to better understand existing energy usage and opportunities for reduction, or altering the way that it is provided.
Following extensive development work with academic and non-academic partners, Esri UK is able to offer detailed datasets to facilitate growth in the low carbon economy. These provide an understanding of the suitability of a range of low carbon measures from an energy resource, financial and environmental perspective. The measures are summarised as follows:
