What is GIS?

Geographical Information Systems for Desktop

You may want to introduce GIS for the first time to help with just your own area of responsibility, or into a small workgroup of people dealing with geographically-related information. From your own desktop geographical information system you can map quantities, such as where the most or least are, to find locations that meet criteria or visualise relationships between places. This helps you decide what action to take.

ArcGIS provides a functionally rich desktop GIS environment that will give you all the import, analysis and reporting tools you need for geo-centric work. As part of an integrated suite of software, you also have the confidence that your system can be expanded and the value of GIS is recognised across your organisation’s business.

GIS allows us to view, understand, question, interpret, and visualise data in ways simply not possible in the rows and columns of a spreadsheet. Beautiful and interesting maps provide better decision-making tools and analysis and make a difference in our world.
