GIS for Internet

ESRI (UK) has developed a range of products to deliver maps and GIS data on the internet. Since geographic information is a gateway to many other types of data, GIS has a natural and valuable place on Internet sites and on organisation-wide Intranets.

A GIS-enabled web site enables staff and customers to explore maps, perform spatial searches and find locations and places of interest and also to enter and upload their own information. ESRI’s ArcIMS and ArcGIS Server range of geographic information system products provides server-side database and web software for this functionality to be integrated into web applications.
