The Navigator Data and Application Framework Now Powered by Windows Azure

PetroWEB Continues to Implement Leading Edge Technology by Moving to the Cloud

DENVER, Co., July 27, 2011—petroWEB, Inc. has configured one of its flagship solutions, The Navigator Data and Application Framework, to be powered by Windows Azure. Windows Azure and SQL Azure help developers build, host and scale applications through Microsoft datacenters throughout the world. The move comes just as the software community is beginning to realize the power of cloud-based technology. "The great things about running Navigator on the Azure platform are the ease of scaling up or down and being able to deploy Navigator around the globe," said Mike Graham, Vice President of New Technology.

Darcy Vaughan, Director, helped found petroWEB over fifteen years ago and speaks with decades of experience in the oil and gas industry. "Petroleum Companies make money producing oil and gas. PetroWEB Navigator running on Microsoft Azure allows these companies to focus on their primary business and get out of the IT infrastructure business. Whether they are a small regional producer or a global player, we can now provide them with an industry leading GIS that will scale cost wise and infrastructure wise."

The move is a good decision according to Microsoft Windows Azure Architect Evangelist, Ricardo Villalobos. He believes petroWEB will now be able to harness the many benefits of the Windows Azure Platform. "PetroWEB has efficiently embraced cloud computing by migrating their on-premise Navigator version to Windows Azure in record time, rapidly taking advantage of the different resources that this platform offers, including compute and data storage capabilities provided by multiple Microsoft data centers around the world." He adds, "This means that their clients can now deploy the Navigator solution in less time and without having to worry about investing on specific IT infrastructure to support it."

The Navigator Data and Application Framework is petroWEB's Microsoft Silverlight browser-based geographic information system (GIS) integration framework built specifically for the oil and gas industry. Navigator is built using the Esri® ArcGIS® API for Silverlight so it provides a strong GIS along with other analytical tools customized by petroWEB.
