DTS Wildfire and Esri: Strategic Partners at the Southern Group of State Foresters Annual Meeting
Fort Collins, COJune 18, 2012DTS Wildfire and Esri teamed up at the Southern Group of State Foresters annual summer meeting this past month to showcase some of DTS Wildfire’s applications. While at the conference, leaders of the state forestry agencies in all 13 southern states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands had the opportunity to demo the Texas Wildfire Risk Assessment Portal (TxWRAP) web mapping applicationwww.texaswildfirerisk.com. TxWRAP is the primary mechanism for the Texas Forest Service to deploy risk information and create awareness about wildfire issues across their state. TxWRAP is comprised of a suite of custom applications, built on Esri's ArcGIS Server technology, that are tailored to support specific workflow and information requirements for the public, local community groups, government officials, professional hazard-mitigation planners, and wildland fire managers. Collectively these applications provide the baseline information needed to support mitigation and prevention efforts across the state.
Attendees were also able to view the Colorado High Park Fire viewer just developed by DTS to track the High Park wildfire that is currently burning over 54,000 acres near Fort Collins, CO, home of DTS Agile division. The viewer was built on the Esri ArcGIS Server Flex API. This application provides active fire information to the public, including real time updates through social media and emergency management links. The application was developed as a public service aid for those needing location information about the fire. The web applications, available at http://co.dtswildfire.com, integrates information from several sources, including the Larimer County Sheriff.
