Introduction
CrimeAnalyst from ESRI (UK) changes crime pattern analysis from being a way of viewing hotspots of previous criminal activity, into a way of delivering live intelligence that fits with the National Intelligence Model (NIM) framework. CrimeAnalyst uses the power of the ESRI ArcGIS suite of products to collect, combine, visualise, analyse, and share crime information in real-time. By both increasing the productivity of your Crime Analysts and by offering self-serve access to the latest crime information, CrimeAnalyst moves geographic analysis of crime from a backroom function to a key corporate asset.
CrimeAnalyst makes use of the capabilities of ESRI's ArcGIS software to allow direct connection to many crime recording databases and corporate data warehouses. This direct connection allows more rapid access to information and reduces the errors and omissions and time associated with extracting data from one system, through a transfer format, into another system. In cases where direct connection to corporate repositories is not available, CrimeAnalyst can easily make use of existing processes through its support for a wide variety of file-based input formats.
The ability to work with data minutes rather than days or weeks after it is entered into corporate systems means disparate data can be turned into geographic intelligence that can be used to inform live policing decisions.
