LocalView Fusion FAQs

Q: When is LocalView Fusion being retired?

A: LocalView Fusion is being retired on the 1st July 2016.  For information about our new UK Local Government Solution for ArcGIS please click here

Q: Why is LocalView Fusion being retired?

A: LocalView Fusion is being retired because the ArcGIS Platform now provides equivalent capabilities so there is no longer a requirement for a localised product to support the needs of Local Government.  For more information please see the blog.

Q: Will Esri UK continue to support and maintain LocalView Fusion?

A: Yes.  Until the retirement date Esri UK will continue to support customers who are under maintenance and will continue to release new versions to provide compatibility with the latest ArcGIS for Server releases and to provide bug fixes for critical issues.  Customers should put in place migration plans to move to the new UK Local Government Solution for ArcGIS before the retirement date.

Q: Can LocalView Fusion run in parallel with the new UK Local Government Solution for ArcGIS?

A: Yes.  The new solution can be implemented along-side the LocalView Fusion, allowing customers to migrate their solution one application at a time.

Q: How do I get the latest version?

A: The latest LocalView Fusion install for on premise customers is available as a download from the Esri UK FTP site.

FTP Location: https://download.esriuk.com

Username: Lvfusion

The password is unchanged and has been sent to all customers. It is available on request from support@esriuk.com.

Q. Is LocalView Fusion supported with ArcGIS version10.2.2?

A. Yes, although version 4.3.1 of LocalView Fusion was released prior to 10.2.2 being available, it has now been tested and certified against ArcGIS for Server 10.2.2.

Q: What documentation is available for developers?

A: The Integrator’s guide for developers is available for developers building web mapping applications on top of the ArcGIS platform using LocalView Fusion.

The website covers how to integrate LocalView applications into your websites and webpages: http://www.esriuk.com/radardoc/

It replaces and updates information previously provided in the Integrator's Guide for Developers (PDF document).

Q: Where can I find information on how to install LocalView Fusion?

A: The install guide is included in the software download file (which is available from the ftp site). The install guide provides step by step guidance on how to install LocalView Fusion. There are separate install guides for ArcGIS Server 9.3.1 and 10 and for ArcGIS Server 10.1, as the process changed with the 10.1 release.

Q: How do I upgrade a LocalView Fusion template?

A: From LocalView Fusion Version 4 it is possible to just upgrade one or more templates without updating the entire LocalView platform. In order to upgrade a template run the LocalView Fusion Post Install Wizard once to install/update, and then run it a second time to configure. See the LocalView Fusion Template installation guide for details.

Q: How do I upgrade LocalView Fusion to a new version?

A: If you are upgrading a previous LocalView Fusion installation to the latest version, you will need to follow the post-install upgrade configuration instructions in the install guide.

Uninstall the previous version of LocalView Fusion and install the new version as per the instructions. Then run the post-install twice following the correct order for upgrades. See the post-install options table in the installation guide for details.

Q: Can I use my ArcGIS Online services within LocalView Fusion?

A: Yes.In order to add services from ArcGIS Online you will first need to register a connection to your ArcGIS Online Organisation account. This is done by signing in to LocalView Fusion, selecting Content, and then ArcGIS Online. You then have the option to Add a connection requiring the following parameters:
  • Name – a name for the connection
  • URL – the URL of you organisation account (e.g. https://<accountname>.maps.arcgis.com/)
  • Username – username of a valid account
  • Password – associated password for the above account
Once the connection is registered, you should then be able to view services from ArcGIS Online and view them within LocalView Fusion. Select Content > Maps > Add.
You should now be able to access the ArcGIS Online tab which will list all of the ArcGIS Online services currently available to the user.

Q: Can I use URL parameters when launching an application, for instance to open a map at a certain location?

A: Yes, LocalView Fusion supports a range of URL parameters, some of which are specific to certain templates. These are documented in the Integrators Guide

For instance the following URL would open a Navigator, WebPublisher or Embeddable Map application at the specified x, y location (351000, 312000) and at the chosen scale (1:2500). 27700 specifies that the data is in British National Grid:

You can also use parameters to specify which layers are to be shown in the map, highlight a location with a particular symbol, size, colour etc, and zoom to a identified feature . There are a number of different examples in the Integrators Guide.

Some templates, such as My Location and Routes to School, support a limited set of URL parameters. Parameters can be used to launch a My Locatation application to display a specific address in the results page, as follows:

X, Y Coordinate location (lvfX, lvfY) – this displays the nearest address to the specified location

e.g. example/maps/Sites/MySite/?lvfX=439078&lvfY=516011&lvfSR=27700

A valid address match string (lvfMatchString) – an address matching the string supplied is displayed

e.g. example/maps/Sites/MySite/?lvfMatchString=5 burnham street

A valid locator hub LOCATOR_DATASET_FAMILY_ID (lvfFID) – an address matching the specified identifier is displayed

e.g. example/maps/Sites/MySite/?lvfFID=1234567
