• In this thought-provoking keynote presentation, Jamie Moore and Joseph Sykes from The Crown Estate cast a light on the conflicting demands on UK marine environments. With impactful visualisations, they showed how the need to make space for offshore wind and carbon storage has to be carefully balanced against the presence of existing marine industries, underwater telecoms cables, fishing, shipping, leisure uses and nature. Find out how ArcGIS has helped The Crown Estate to consider thousands of alternative scenarios for the future of the seabed to 2050, carefully weighing up development opportunities, costs and environmental impacts.

Analytical Insights

 • Knife crime is one of the most pressing concerns in society today. Knife-related offences and other violent incidents steal innocent lives, destroy families and frighten communities throughout the UK. To help tackle this urgent problem, West Midlands Police is using Esri’s ArcGIS Pro technology not only to identify hotspots of harm, but also to drill down deeper to pinpoint the precise streets and premises where harmful crime is most likely. The force shared how it is using this intelligence to target its neighbourhood patrols in the right locations to take weapons off the streets, reduce crime and reassure communities.

Esri UK then opens up ArcGIS Pro and demonstrates some of the Spatial Analyst tools used at West Midlands Police. Do I have spatial outliers, are my hotspots affected by barriers and what is an 80/20 tool? We answer these questions, while sharing tips on using the vast library of geoprocessing tools. Discover how to create repeatable advanced analysis workflows to gain a deeper understanding of the geospatial issues impacting your organisation.

 • The housing shortage is a pressing issue and a key priority of the current Government with millions of people affected by the lack of affordable, quality homes. In this panel session, Wealden District Council, HM Land Registry and Knight Frank discussed the critical role geography can play in addressing the housing crisis, whilst ensuring housing solutions are sustainable, efficient and aligned with the needs of communities. Such a challenge will require a more collaborative approach from across policy, planning, delivery and more. This is a great opportunity to gain real insight from a range of stakeholders tasked with supporting the delivery of 1.5million new homes.

Following on from this lively discussion, Esri UK demonstrates how to access key data and use analysis tools in ArcGIS Pro to identify sites that meet key criteria. They looked at how ArcGIS tools can explore site capacity and use ArcGIS Urban to take planning into 3D and examine key metrics for different scenarios. Gain an appreciation of why geography is key to tackling the UK housing crisis and how ArcGIS can help.

Collaborative Working

 • In little more than ten years’ time, today’s school students will be making the decisions that will impact the future of our businesses, our country and indeed our planet. It is, therefore, impossible to underestimate the importance of equipping these young people with an understanding of sustainability and the technology skills to make a difference. In this session you will learn how Bloxham School and Dalcour MacLaren are doing precisely this, through a competition called the Bloxham Sustainability Challenge. This remarkable collaboration between education and industry supports students to use Esri’s ArcGIS technology and learn about local sustainability issues.

After hearing about this inspiring programme, you will have a chance to see the easy-to-configure tools in ArcGIS that can support digital-only consultation processes. Esri UK will demonstrate how to collect responses using ArcGIS Survey123 and use the portfolio of templates in ArcGIS Instant Apps to present the results to different audiences. Watch this session to hear from students, teachers and business professionals and learn how intuitive tools in ArcGIS are awakening the next generation to the power of geography.

 • Peatland environments are incredibly precious, not just for the habitats they provide for rare and vulnerable species but also for the role they play in carbon sequestration and flood prevention. These increasingly rare landscapes are, however, degrading rapidly and decades of peat formation can be lost in just a year. Determined to reverse this alarming trend, RSPB Cymru is using ArcGIS to restore peatland areas in Wales. The nature charity will describe how it has created highly detailed visualisations of a 28 km2 site, enabling staff, volunteers and contractors to collaborate efficiently whether they are in the office or in the countryside.

After hearing how ArcGIS is helping RSPB Cymru to improve our landscape, Esri UK will be charting how ArcGIS Field Maps supports your GIS workflows beyond the office. This mobile app delivers access to your up-to-date data and provides focused tools for capturing accurate data on the go. Watch this session for top tips on setting up ArcGIS Field Maps for offline working, ready for your colleagues to use out in the field.

 • Endangered wild salmon populations will only ever be fully protected if organisations and groups in the fisheries sector work together, sharing data and coordinating schemes. This is why the Scottish Fisheries Coordination Centre (SFCC) has used ArcGIS Dashboards to combine data on over 1,300 interventions, across 44 fisheries districts. In this illuminating presentation, you will see dashboards that provide the first-ever consolidated view of urgent conservation initiatives and the investment required to implement them. You will also learn how SFCC has transformed 44 static pdf fisheries management reports into dynamic stories using the ArcGIS StoryMaps app builder to improve stakeholder engagement.

To shed further light on SFCC’s work, Esri UK dove into the capabilities of ArcGIS Dashboards. We showed how easy it is to create an insightful and interactive dashboard and demonstrate expert tips to take widget configuration further.
