A staff initiative at Wigan Council supporting ‘The Deal’ led to a successful GIS Day 2017 event raising awareness of the uses of GIS technology and building a GIS users network. They are now creating a GIS strategy around the principle of storing their geographic information once with live links shared both internally and externally. They have developed a GIS Open Data site and other web applications and field data collection solutions.
