An exciting opening session featuring an ArcGIS Update from Esri UK CTO, Mark Wells.

Enhancing wildlife management surveys on Scotland's national forest using drone captured data with FLS

Forestry and Land Scotland, BH Wildlife Consultancy, & Esri UK Douglas Knox, Ben Harrower, Eve Selbie, & Catherine Clarke

Traditionally Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) assessed deer populations with sample plot field surveys and data extrapolations. Recent innovative work with BH Wildlife Consultancy has enhanced FLS wildlife management operations by acquiring 'minimum count' data from thermal imaging drones, using a combination of Esri's ArcGIS apps. Scotland's deer population has doubled in the last 30 years, increasing negative impacts on forests and other habitats. Data and thermal imagery showing deer densities is now an important part of FLS work to manage deer at a landscape scale, in partnership with other land managers. These outputs are also helping policy makers and regulators understand the issues, as well as helping FLS communicate publicly the need for sustainable deer management - often an emotive and controversial subject.

Following this innovative story from FLS and BH Wildlife Consultancy, Esri UK will take you on a flight through the changing landscape of remote sensed data and look at how ArcGIS analysis tools can yield insight from this view of our world. We'll then touch down with a look at how ArcGIS can unlock access to imagery for wider audience.

Unearthing and recording the greenspace in a complex and multi-site estate with NHS Fife

NHS Fife & Esri UK Kathryn Hastie, Daniel Graveling, & Amy Luscombe

Last summer NHS Fife mapped their entire estate using Esri's data collection apps. Using 60 different categorisations they accurately assigned land use, creating a complete and detailed understanding of the whole estate. Hear from NHS Fife about discovering that 62% of their estate is greenspace and how this is changing management of the estate. Their mapping project supports the objectives set out in their 2030 Greenspace Strategy and can help bring benefit to staff, patients, local communities and the wider environment.

After hearing how NHS Fife are changing the management of their greenspaces, the Esri UK team will dig into how our modern data capture tools work. They'll delve into the secrets behind Sweet for ArcGIS and ArcGIS Field Maps. Learn how the apps can be configured to provide intuitive editing tools that ensure the integrity of your data, whether you are editing in the office or exploring and recording data on the go.

Melting the barriers between meteorological data and engineering application with the Met Office

Met Office & Esri UK Philip Hodge, Dr Anthony Veal, Dan Thoburn, & Richard Purkis

Designing structures to withstand Scottish winters requires good meteorological data to feed into engineering standards. Traditionally the values for important predictions, like the build-up of ice on structures, were shared as lines on a static map. After updating their scientific model to use the best data available, the Met Office adopted a digital approach to sharing their updated Ice Accretion Map for Scotland. Making it available for direct use in ArcGIS allows engineers to use the digital map alongside their other tools in the design process. and better match designs to local conditions.

Joining the Met Office in this session, we'll be looking at some of the powerful tools in ArcGIS for data management and translation. As well as established options like Notebooks we'll also dip into the exciting new Data Pipelines tool in ArcGIS Online. We'll round out the session with a look at sharing key data and maps using ArcGIS Hub.

Baselining Natural Capital across Transport Scotland's road network with Jacobs

Jacobs & Esri UK Harry Catharell-Hargreaves, Matteo Bedini, Molly Fergus, & Ebony Webster

Transport Scotland maintain and operate Scotland's Trunk Road Network. Within these areas there are diverse natural and built environments that present great value to different communities. Jacobs' Geospatial team have collaborated to develop an automated approach to Transport Scotland's Natural Capital baseline. Establishing the current worth of assets across different ecosystem services, and a robust process for monitoring change, allows Transport Scotland to fully realise the Natural Capital of their estate and inform decision making across Scotland.

After you've heard Jacobs unpacking how they developed the process and shared the results, our tech team will provide a tour of the app options in ArcGIS. Whether it's configuring a simple app, combining maps, charts and indicators in a Dashboard, an interactive report or wrapping up the wider narrative with ArcGIS Storymaps there are options for all scenarios.

The Road Ahead

Esri UKMark Wells & Matthew Akerman

You'll hear about our road ahead and vision for the future from our Chief Technology Officer, Mark Wells.
