Where is it suitable to build wind turbines?

Finding suitable locations for wind turbine development requires up-to-date and authoritative data for accurate analysis. Your ArcGIS Online subscription unlocks the world’s largest collection of geographic information - The ArcGIS Living Atlas. For this scenario, we've added; Ordnance Survey's Open Roads and Open Rivers, Natural England's Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), and Office for National Statistics' Built-Up Areas and Counties Authorities Boundaries

ArcGIS Online offers a wealth of analysis tools. To help eliminate unsuitable locations, use the Create Buffer tool to identify areas within 100 meters of roads or rivers and within 500m of built-up areas

Using the Merge Layers tool allows all our constraint areas (the AONB and SSSI areas, as well as our buffers) to be combined into a single dataset. This can be simplified further using the Dissolve Boundaries tool to combine overlapping areas to show unsuitable locations. Now, we can invert this using the Overlay Layers tool to identify our suitable locations 

Having identified where the potential development locations are, these results can be shared securely with internal and external stakeholders using a range of configurable apps (no coding required).
