Fast, flexible storytelling
Creating a story should be easy and intuitive. The builder should be tailored to fit your content, not the other way around.
It started with a question: In the digital age, how could maps and multimedia content be woven together to create rich, interactive experiences?
Then, it grew into a mission: to enable anyone to create visual stories, powered by place, regardless of their technical expertise. The lessons learned—and feedback received—over the eight years that followed built a critical foundation for the creation of ArcGIS StoryMaps.
StoryMaps' new, unified builder first made its debut in a private alpha testing phase, then a public beta test.
Feedback collected in the testing periods greatly shaped design and development decisions for the product, which was officially launched in July.
More blocks will be added to the new builder, with many designed to resemble classic template experiences. Others will blaze new trails for StoryMaps functionality.
In July 2021, the classic templates will enter a three-year period of extended support. During this time, only critical maintenance updates will be made to the apps. You’ll still be able to create and edit stories with the classic templates during this phase.
In July 2024, the classic templates will enter the mature support phase. In this phase, no further updates will be made to the software. Classic stories you’ve created will continue to be available.
