ArcGIS Online Credit Usage

Many of the valuable capabilities in ArcGIS Online are included with your user type. Viewing maps and apps and sharing data do not incur credit charges. Here is a list of capabilities that consume credits.

Using credits: Storage

There are three types of storage that consume credits: feature storage, imagery storage, and file storage. Storage is calculated by the size of features, files, tiles, scenes, and vector tiles your organisation has stored in ArcGIS Online.

Using credits: Transactions

Transaction-based tools—such as geocoding, geoenrichment, image analysis, and spatial analysis—consume credits, and some of these tools are also available in other products.

Credit usage by product and capability

Below are examples of use cases for storage in ArcGIS Online:

  • Centralise your organisation's geospatial data and related files for easy access on the web by hosting it in ArcGIS Online.
  • Bring data from many sources—including spreadsheets, geospatial files, and images—into ArcGIS Online using its reliable infrastructure, and spatially enable your data for visualisation and analysis.

Note: ArcGIS Online also offers fixed-price feature data storage with Premium Feature Data Store.

Storage is calculated by the size of features, files, tiles, scenes, and vector tiles your organisation has stored in ArcGIS Online. Storage is calculated on an hourly basis. There are three types of storage that consume credits: feature storage, imagery storage, and file storage.

  • Feature storage—Feature storage shows the average amount of space and number of credits your organisation is using to store hosted feature data.
  • File storage—File storage includes other types of layers and files, such as attachments (in your hosted feature layers).
  • Imagery storage—Imagery storage is specific to imagery layers hosted in using ArcGIS Image for ArcGIS Online.

Below are examples of use cases for analysis in ArcGIS Online:

  • Leverage the robust suite of analysis tools in ArcGIS Online to identify patterns, build routes, and enrich your data.
  • Perform in-depth analysis to understand your organisation's data and generate insight to improve decision-making.

The credit usage of analysis tools is based on your organisation's usage of analytics. The status of credit consumption is updated approximately every 10 minutes. Analysis tools include the following:

  • Geocoding—This shows the number of address locations that have been matched in the context of hosted feature layers. Unmatched addresses do not count toward your geocode usage.
  • Service Areas—This shows the number of service areas such as drive-time areas generated by your organisation.
  • Closest Facility Routes—This shows the number of routes generated by your organisation to find nearby locations.
  • Multi-Vehicle Routes—This shows the number of routes generated by your organisation to optimally assign stops to different vehicles, find the best stop sequence, and route the vehicles to the stops.
  • ArcGIS GeoEnrichment Service —This shows the number of requests and credits your organisation has consumed using ArcGIS GeoEnrichment Service reports, data, infographics, or business searches.
  • Simple Routes—This shows the number of routes generated by your organisation to visit stops in the sequence provided.
  • Spatial Analysis—This shows the usage of spatial analysis tasks by users and apps within your organisation.
  • Location-Allocation—This shows the usage of the location-allocation service performed by your organisation. The location-allocation service provides developers and ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Desktop users a group of capabilities for performing analytical operations on data hosted by Esri.
  • Optimised Routes—This shows the number of routes generated by your organisation to visit stops in an optimal sequence.

Credits Used for Analysis

Geocoding

Match addresses when publishing spreadsheets (such as CSV or Excel files) as hosted feature layers using ArcGIS World Geocoding Service or a view of this locator

40 credits per 1,000 geocodes

Spatial analysis

Aggregate Points and Join Features

Note: Join Features does not consume credits if you choose the option to create results as a hosted feature layer view.

1 credit per 1,000 features (queried for Find Existing Locations and Derive New Locations)

Imagery analysis

Perform imagery analysis using raster analysis tools or raster functions

Credit usage for imagery analysis depends on the number of pixels or features processed, which incorporates the number of bands in multiband imagery and the number of slices in multidimensional data.

Custom raster function templates that chain multiple complex functions together may increase credit usage.

Below are examples of use cases for imagery in ArcGIS Online:

  • Create hosted imagery layers from your organisation's data to embed in apps and maps.
  • Identify patterns in your hosted imagery layers using ArcGIS Online tools or build your own using raster functions.

Note the following:

  • Credits for tiled imagery storage are calculated based on the size of the image files stored.
  • The total number of images in a dynamic imagery layer is calculated when the layer is published. Click to find the number of images or slices on the layer's item page.
Tiled imagery storage1.2 credits per 1 GB stored per month, calculated hourly
Dynamic imagery storage1.2 credits per 1 GB stored per month, calculated hourly, based on the total size of the image or images. For the total number of images, the credit costs are as follows:
  • 1–10 images: 10 credits per day
  • 11–100 images: 20 credits per day
  • 101–1,000 images: 40 credits per day
  • 1,001–10,000 images: 80 credits per day
  • 10,001–100,000 images: 160 credits per day
  • Over 100,000 images: 320 credits per day
