Customer video: Oxfordshire County Council
Oxfordshire County Council’s Local Energy Oxfordshire (LEO) project is a demonstrator project that aims to trial technology, systems and processes to provide a smart, flexible local energy system to incorporate renewable energy and manage energy more efficiently. This video demonstrates how location data underpins this project, enabling over 40 energy datasets to be brought together to assess the impact of place: where is the energy demand; where are households not connected to the gas grid; where are households not connected to the grid; where are households in fuel poverty, etc. This information enables plan for change, informing decisions on how to get to net zero by 2030.
ArcGIS can be used to:
Prepare for sea-level rises
Cities, towns and villages on the coast and alongside tidal rivers will need to evolve to mitigate the flood risks from sea-level rises. See how the City of London Corporation has used ArcGIS to accurately model likely future changes in the Thames and propose developments to reduce the risk of flooding and improve the sustainability of the riverside environment for future generations.

Explore Urban Heat Risks
The ‘Keep Bristol Cool’ mapping tool allows users to explore urban heat risks for the city of Bristol. It enables understanding of where in the city risk is highest and therefore where people are most vulnerable. The maps also enables monitoring of changing temperatures over time.

Plan for a net zero future
The UK Government aims to reduce carbon emissions to net zero by 2050, and local authorities must play their part in helping to achieve this goal. Oxfordshire County Council has undertaken spatial modelling as part of its planning for a net zero carbon energy system and has developed an ArcGIS StoryMap showing how - and where - energy is used and generated across Oxfordshire.

Collaborate and engage with others
More space for nature and better preparedness for climate change will only really be achieved through the collaboration of multiple agencies and engagement with citizens.
