Esri Ireland join “Irish Tech Goes Carbon Neutral”
According to the 2019 Climate Change Performance Index, Ireland is the worst performer in Europe and among the worst performers globally. While Esri Ireland will not change that statistic on our own, we can certainly do our best to help. We have sought to better understand the carbon footprint of both our physical office spaces in Dublin and Holywood as well as our team’s respective commutes to and from those offices.
Esri Ireland is now part of the “Irish Tech Goes Carbon Neutral” Movement. Our assessment was verified and validated by two carbon-expert organisations: Carbon Footprint, based in the UK and Go Carbon Neutral, here in Ireland. Based on our 2019 business operations, and through our partnership with ‘Irish Tech Goes Carbon Neutral’ we are now a certified carbon neutral company. The aim of Irish Tech Goes Carbon Neutral is to plant native Irish woodland as a means of offsetting carbon emissions, fostering biodiversity and creating a legacy of native forests for people to enjoy.
The Go Carbon Neutral initiative is a great first step for private sector companies and organisations to step up and help to transition Ireland as a leading nation in the fight against climate change. It’s an inclusive, meaningful and enjoyable way to make a difference, while creating a lasting legacy of restored Irish deciduous woodlands which will never be cut down.
There will be over 53,000 trees planted in a site in Roscommon, in partnership with a number of other like-minded companies.
Irish Tech Goes Carbon Neutral are planning to have a planting day this year, when it’s safe to do so, where members of our team can get involved on site. Being part of this community enables us to live by our green values that are core to our Mission, Vision and Values. It complements the other work we do to be as sustainable as we can in how we do business and with the suppliers we engage with.
This inspires us as a company and a team in that we can make a difference and that the organisation is interested and willing to support us in doing so. One of our core values is Honesty & Integrity, and given that the “E” in “Esri” stands for Environmental, we believe that our actions should match not only our words, but our name as well.
