Esri UK Welcomes the Geospatial Commission’s UK Geospatial Strategy
Esri UK welcomes the Geospatial Commission Strategy “Unlocking the power of location”, which was published on the 16th of June. It is encouraging to see the increased focus and importance that Government is placing on the role of geospatial data and technologies to enhance all aspects of the UK’s businesses, government organisations and society. This is a great step forward for our community and we all have a role to play in its success.
As the UK and global market leader in GIS and Location Analysis, we take our responsibility to continue to support and develop our industry very seriously. The publication of this strategy will help to inform how we continue to do this. Its release is timely as the UK faces complex challenges including economic instability, population growth, diminishing resources, environmental change, social conflict, urbanisation, biodiversity, pollution and inequality. At this time, when we find ourselves in an unprecedented national and global emergency with COVID-19, it has never been more important to understand what is going on, where, and why. At Esri UK we understand that, where things are, and how and why they are connected is essential for optimal decision-making.
Esri UK work with many organisations and industries for which the nine location data opportunities identified in the strategy are highly relevant. We are committed to helping those industries realise greater value and deliver outcomes through leveraging location data.
Stuart Bonthrone, Managing Director of Esri UK, said “The UK Geospatial Strategy is a great basis on which we can all build; to drive our industry forward, realise the value in Geospatial and promote the UK as a centre of excellence - and we are excited to play our part.”
Esri UK will continue to engage with the Geospatial Commission and with our customers to understand how we can help to deliver the ambitions of strategy.
